Air freight software is not one market. It is four overlapping ones, and buying from the wrong group wastes more in implementation time than the subscription ever will.

All-in-one air forwarding platforms. CargoEZ, GoFreight, Magaya, Logi-Sys, and Shipthis aim to run the whole air file: quoting, airline bookings, HAWB and MAWB documents, consolidations, customs and security filing, a customer portal, and billing. For a US forwarder that wants one system of record for air, this is the group to shortlist first.

Global enterprise suites. CargoWise and the Descartes Forwarder Enterprise Suite are built for scale and for customs and IATA messaging complexity across many countries. They carry longer implementations and higher total cost, and they earn it only when air volume and jurisdictional spread are high.

Rate, capacity, and booking layers. WebCargo by Freightos is the clear example. It sits on top of an operations system rather than replacing it, and it solves airline rate management, live capacity, and instant eBooking. It integrates back to the forwarding platform.

Airport community and handler systems. Kale Logistics Solutions runs cargo community platforms that link airports, ground handlers, airlines, and customs. A forwarder integrates with one of these for slot booking and cargo acceptance; it is not a replacement for your own file system.

The pricing reality in air freight forwarder software

Almost everything in this category is quote-based, and the published numbers that exist are entry points, not the price you will pay.

Per-user subscription is the norm. Logitude publishes from about $25 per user per month, Logi-Sys lists from $80, and GoFreight’s mid-market tiers are reported around $100 to $400 per user per month with implementation often bundled. Seat count is the main cost driver.

Modules stack the bill. Magaya, CargoEZ, and CargoWise price the air forwarding core separately from WMS, customs, CRM, and accounting. The demo configuration and the contract configuration are rarely the same, so price the modules you will actually switch on.

Enterprise means implementation fees. CargoWise and Descartes deployments commonly run six figures a year once services, training, and trade content are included. CargoWise’s December 2025 Value Pack change also raised many existing customers’ costs, so ask current users about renewal behavior.

Rate and community tools carry transaction economics. WebCargo forwarder access is free, with premium rate management quoted separately, and airport community platforms often bill per transaction. Model the per-shipment cost against the rate and time savings before committing.

What to test in an air freight software trial

Do not test the vendor demo. Test your own air files, your own lanes, and your own back office.

One, run a real air export file end to end. Take an actual booking from quote to airline reservation to MAWB and HAWB to manifest to invoice. Count the clicks and the manual re-keying. This exposes most of the workflow friction you will live with.

Two, issue a live eAWB. Confirm the system produces a compliant electronic air waybill, transmits it to the carrier, and handles amendments and cancellations. Check whether messaging is Cargo-XML, ONE Record, or a portal upload.

Three, build a consolidation. Create a co-load with three house shipments under one master, then split charges and margins back to each house. Weak consolidation handling is the most common reason air forwarders outgrow a light tool.

Four, file a test AMS entry and check ACAS handling. For air import, confirm the system files AMS directly or through a named integration, and check how advance security data and rejections are handled.

Five, load your airline rate sheets. Import current airline contracts, general cargo rates, and surcharges, then produce a quote. Check whether your rate structure maps cleanly and whether expiring rates are flagged.

Six, generate the accounting entries. Raise a multi-currency invoice, apply an airline bill against the file, and pull profit per shipment. Confirm whether it posts to a built-in ledger or exports to QuickBooks or an ERP.

Seven, test support in your time zone. Log a real question during a US business day and time the response. For vendors headquartered outside the US, this is the check that matters most.

What’s changing in air freight forwarder software in 2026

ONE Record adoption is moving from pilot to production. More airlines and forwarders are exchanging shipment data through IATA ONE Record rather than legacy EDI. In 2026 buyers are asking whether a platform speaks ONE Record natively or bolts it on, because retrofitting later is costly.

AI is landing on documents first. Shipthis, GoComet, and others use AI for document extraction, rate parsing, and invoice audit. This automates clerical air-file work rather than making routing decisions, and the payback is real but incremental.

Air security data requirements keep tightening. ACAS and advance filing expectations continue to rise. Forwarders are placing more weight on whether security and customs filing is native or a bolt-on, and on how the system handles rejections and holds.
